DC is a fantastic spot for a "staycation"; bring your family out to visit for a long weekend and explore all of the wonderful museums and  monuments, as well as some of the spots that are off the tourist track. You'll be getting better amenities for less, and you'll get them in a homier environment; you can move the furniture to suit you and cook in the fully-equipped kitchen.
